Herbie Hancock's composition Driftin' is one of our favorite standards. It has a fascinating combination of sophistication and funk. The harmony is strong enough to sustain a trio version while retaining the bluesy feel. The original is very much piano driven; the absence of that timbre creates a fresh sound.
